Back and Forth, In an Out
I recently finished reading Anderson Cooper’s memoirs, Dispatches from the edge. His book was a fantastic look at the scenarios that shaped him as a person (His father’s death, his brother’s suicide, His mother’s fame etc.) and the scenarios that shaped him as a journalist. From the time he arrived in Sarejavo as an unemployed journalist working to sell his footage to Channel One news, which led to a return to Sarejavo to cover the situation as a correspondant for Channel One, then more recently, he covered the massive tsunami Sri Lanka, working closely with doctors as well as citizens to tell their stories in compelling ways. Then later, Cooper covered hurricane Katrina, arguably the event that brought cooper to the epicenter of modern journalism. Cooper was moved by the images he saw, and the lack of concern exhibited toward the situation by FEMA, and other organizations.
All in all I liked the book, especially the way Cooper transitioned in and out between professional memoirs and personal memoirs. At first I hated it, but it grew on me big time.
I reccomend you pick up a copy, its worth it.
