Hey Mike!

Not to argue... but just curious about:

1. Joseph was a "Government official" in Egypt and worked for the government system then. (Called by God to work there- went through some hard stuff, but was Pharaoh's highest administrator)

2. Daniel was enslaved by the Babylonian's and became a high ranking government official.

3. Nehemiah worked for an enemy king (a close employee too for he was the king's food-tester no less!), prayed to God for his own hurting land and the king let him go and help his people.

God was heavily involved in the lives of these men, but the government leaders held them all in high esteem. These men were not pastors, but they were politicians who loved God very much and did BRAVE things in the name of God! Each story brought on logical and helpful solutions to their own culture. Jesus might have been perfect, but Christian's aren't. Also, many people say they are Christians, but aren't (by their actions). I do believe that there are sensible Bible-believing Christians who can (and should) stand up for values and principles held high in the Bible.

I mean the Bible says to do it and Christians get tagged as hypocrites all the time! Tell me, doesn't the liberal/democratic side want Christians to be genuine?

I don't know... what do you think? :)

P.S. I totally agree with honoring authority! God values authority very highly. I never mock or tease Obama- even if I disagree with most of what he says! However, I do want to stand up for what I believe is right as a person- isn't that what everyone should do?

Today's language is very cautious - our comments may be recorded, replayed, or show up on the Internet or You Tube. A politician has learned that his/her public pronouncements have to be primarily rare. His comments have to be rehearsed and have to leave him some wiggle room so he can carefully be on either side of an issue, depending on who champions the issue or how the issue morphs.
Language in Luther's day had an air of anticipated anonymity. Until Gutenberg there was no method of mass communication. Whatever was said was dead when it was spoken; it went no further. Even Luther said no one would ever remember what he said or wrote. How wrong he was. It is said of Luther that he was "the first modern man" because of his use of mass communication. Today, we of a different generation and of a different culture and of an evolved language are aghast at his casual and common coarsness. Indeed, even Sunday School children snicker at some quotes attributed to Luther. I guess we can blame Luther for not seeing the future and incomprehensibly not understanding how his comments would be used almost 500 years in the future. Shame on you, Martin.

As a Christian, I recognize that I don't live in a theocracy and could really care less if gay partners want to be together; whatever two consenting adults do in the bedroom doesn't concern me. (As a side comment, the notion of gay marriage doesn't exactly thrill me probably because I'm not used to thinking outside of my comfort zone regarding the topic, but, honestly, if two people want to commit to be together - why should I care?) I'm sick of Christianity getting politicized in this country.

Regarding the expression "inheriting the kingdom of God" in 1 Cor. 6 and 15, and Galatians 5, they refer not to one's eternal position before God but rather one's daily walk with Him. After all, Galatians is all about how one cannot perform any type of work to gain salvation outside of repentance and faith in Christ's redemptive work (which directly then nulifies the notion of committing some type of sin that removes the seal of the Holy Spirit). He's saying that if one regularly commits behaviors "XYZ" your relationship with God will be impeded.

However, speaking as a heterosexual female I do not presume to understand what it means to be gay; I welcome your comments.

I agree with your last statement. We are justified by the death of Jesus on the cross and this is a gift of God. We don't have to do anything for it othe than accept Jesus as our personal savior. This would be just as true for homosexuals as for thieves and slanders, etc.

But santification requires a little work on our part with the help of the holy spirit. Fortunately, only justification is required to enter heaven.

However, you wouldn't enter a chocolate cake in a pie contest would you? Well that what is happening when two individuals of the same sex call their relationship a marriage. Civil union or civil partneship is fine but not a marraige. They could still have all the benefits that a marriage provides a man and a woman. But don't confuse cakes and pies.
